Special Weather Statement issued June 6 at 7:45AM EDT by NWS Buffalo NY A cold front slowly pushing across New York state will likely generate strong thunderstorms during the midday and afternoon. The storms will contain torrential downpours and likely frequent cloud to ground lightning...and there is a risk that the storms could become strong enough to produce localized damaging wind gusts to 60 mph. The thunderstorms will push across the Finger Lakes region during the midday hours...and across the Eastern Lake Ontario region between 1 PM and 4 PM. Those with outdoor activities should keep an eye to the sky and keep abreast of updated forecasts and possible warnings.

Marine Weather Statement issued June 6 at 8:08AM EDT by NWS Buffalo NY A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Lake Ontario from Hamlin Beach to the Saint Lawrence River... Thunderstorms during the midday and afternoon today will likely become strong enough to generate wind gusts in excess of 35 knots. While this risk will be possible for sites east of Hamlin Beach... the greatest risk will be from Fair Haven to the Saint Lawrence river. Locations impacted include... Pillar Point, Alexandria Bay, Oswego, Ontario Beach, Mexico Bay, Southwick Beach, Ontario On The Lake, Henderson Harbor, Wellesley Island, Westcott Beach, Chaumont Bay, Selkirk Beach, Stony Point, Sodus Bay, Fair Haven, Clayton, Sandy Island Beach, Tibbets Point, Black River Bay, and Sackets Harbor. Strong thunderstorms later today will likely produce winds in excess of 34 knots, and is likely to pose a serious hazard for boaters. Special marine warnings will likely be required when the strong thunderstorms develop over the region. Boaters should keep an eye to the sky and be wary of possible warnings for this activity.
